て 形 (te kei)
て 形 is “The present doing”
There are three groups of て 形
1st group.
The verbs belonging to the first group are changed in various ways to create the て 形
☞ When ます is removed from a verb, when there are い、ち、り, that letter is also removed and って is added.
Buy – かいます (kaimasu) ➝かって (katte)
Stand – たちます (tachimasu) ➝ たって (tatte)
Run – はしります (hashirimasu) ➝ はしって(hashitte)
☞ When ます is removed from a verb, when there are に、み、び、 that letter is also removed and んで is added.
Die – しにます (shinimasu) ➝ しんで (shinde)
Read – よみます (yomimasu) ➝ よんで (yonde)
Fly – とびます (tobimasu) ➝ とんで (tonde)
☞ When ます is removed from a verb, when there are き that letter is also removed and いて is added.
Write – かきます (kakimasu) ➝ かいて (kaite)
☞ When ます is removed, even if there is a き, only いきます changes, not like this
Go – いきます (ikimasu) ➝ いって (itte)
☞ When ます is removed from a verb, when there are ぎ that letter is also removed and いで is added.
Swim – およぎます (oyogimasu) ➝ およいで (oyoide)
☞ When ます is removed from a verb, when there are し that letter is also removed and て is added.
Talk – はなします (hanashimasu) ➝ はなして (hanashite)

2nd group.
☞ When ます is removed from a verb, if there is a character in the “えrow” , the character て is added after it without any change.
Eat – たべます (tabemasu) ➝ たべて (tabete)
Sleep – ねます (nemasu) ➝ ねて (nete)
Teach – おしえます (oshiemasu) ➝ おしえて (oshiete)
Collect – あつめます (atsumemasu) ➝ あつめて (atsumete)
Put in – いれます (iremasu) ➝ いれて (irete)
Show – みせます (misemasu) ➝ みせて (misete)
Stop – とめます (tomemsu) ➝ とめて (tomete)
Open – あけます (akemasu) ➝ あけて (akete)
Get tired – つかれます (taukaremasu) ➝ つかれて (tsukarete)
Leave – でます (demasu) ➝ でて (dete)
Hang up(picture on the wall) – かけます (kakemasu) ➝ かけて (kakete)
Raise – あげます (agemasu) ➝ あげて (agete)
3rd group.
☞ Only します and きます fall into this group.
Do – します (shimasu) ➝ して (shite)
Come – きます (kimasu) ➝ きて (kite)
