Creating a Simple Sentence - 2
In addition to the は(wa), some other ones are used when creating sentences in Japanese.
This varies according to the status of the sentence being created.
Creating sentences using the も(mo)
も is used after the noun in a sentence. The meaning of this can be called ‘too’, ‘also and as well as’.
Example: • サトさん は ブラジルじん です。ミラさん も ブラジルじん です。
(Sato-san wa burajirujin desu. Mira-san mo burajirujin desu)
Mr. Sato is Brazilian. Mrs. Mira is also Brazilian.
• わたし は コーヒー が ほしい。おちゃ も ほしい。
(watashi wa kōhī ga hoshī. ocha mo hoshī.)
I want coffee. I want you too.
• あまいもの も からいもの も すき です。
(Amaimono mo karaimono mo suki desu.)
I like sweets as well as spicy foods.

Creating sentences using the の (no)
の(no) is used when expressing ownership of something.
• My – わたしの
• Your – きみの / めなたの
• His – かれ の
• Her – かのじょの
Example: • それ は わたし の ペン です。
(Sore wa watashi no pen desu.)
That is my pen.
• これ は かのじょ の かばん です。
(Kore wa kanojo no kaban desu.)
This is her bag.
• それ は あなた の とけい です か。
(Sore wa anata no tokei desu ka.)
Is that your watch?
I also use の when describing the qualities of a noun.
• かのじょ は にほんご の せんせい です。
(Kanojo wa nihongo no sensei desu)
She is a teacher of Japanese.
• この ほん は コンピューター の ほん です。
(kono hon wa konpyuutaa no hon desu)
This is a computer book.
• A: それ は なに に ついて の ざっし です か。
(sore wa nani ni tsuite no zasshi desu ka)
What is that magazine about?
B: カメラ の ざっしです。
(kamera no zasshi desu)
It's a camera magazine.
Using the か(ka)
A sentence is considered an interrogative sentence when か(ka) is used at the end of a sentence.
Example: • なまえ は なん です か。
(namae wa nan desu ka)
What's your name?
• あなた の おとうさん はいしゃ ですか。
(anata no otousan wa isha desu ka)
Is your father a doctor?
• いま なんじ です か。
(ima nanji deau ka)
