National University of Singapore free Scholarships 2023
Founded in 1905, the NUS is the oldest university in Singapore and ranked highest among Asia’s universities. As a regional top educational and research university, NUS is also committed to establish a global campus with the aim of exposing our students to a holistic learning experience outside the classroom. NUS is located in the tropics and has a wide biodiversity for international students to appreciate. Singapore is a multi-cultural and safe country with the most well-developed infrastructure for international students to study and reside. It is also convenient to travel to other SE Asia countries, China or Australia.
Scholarship Details
Launched in 2006, the Amgen Scholars Program aims to inspire the next generation of innovators by providing undergraduate students with hands-on summer research opportunities at premier educational and research institutions across the globe.
One of the key objective of the program is to provide current undergraduate students who are committed to or who are considering a career in biology or related sciences and looking to continue to graduate studies, with eight weeks of biomedical research experience in the basic and transnational sciences. Research training and experiences are provided by faculty members of the Department of Biological Sciences, which anchors the Life Sciences Program in biology and biomedical science at the National University of Singapore.
- In addition to working full time in the laboratory for 8 weeks, the program features:
- Interact with and receive guidance from faculty mentors
- Information sessions on how to apply to Graduate Program at National University of Singapore
- Weekly colloquium and seminar where students can meet and interact with the invited speakers
- Access to campus facilities such as the Library, University Health Services and Sports Center
- Participation in activities organized by Student Societies and exposure to the local culture and way of life Excursions
Eligibility
- Enrolled in colleges or universities worldwide that award a bachelor’s degree (or its equivalent); and
- At the minimum, have completed their first year of undergraduate study at the time the summer program begins; and
- Are not graduating before the summer program begins, and after the summer program ends will resume undergraduate studies for at least 1 semester or 1 quarter
The Scholarship is open to
A strong record of academic performance;
A good working knowledge of English;
demonstrated by a minimum TOEFL (iBT) score of 72
IELTS overall band score of 5.5
Cambridge English FCE
TOEIC score of 1095, TOEIC L&R score of 785, or TOEIC S&W score of 310
if not a native English speaker or English is not your first language
Have an interest in pursuing a Ph.D.
Requirements
This is a full-time program. Scholars cannot take any courses or hold a job throughout the duration of the program. In addition, all participants must be able to attend the program for its entire duration.
BENEFITS OF AWARD
Accommodation: Accommodation will be arranged by the University.
Travel: Airfare to Singapore via the most direct economical route and economy class of up to:
- – Based locally in Singapore: SGD 500
- – South East Asian Nations: SGD 1,200
- – Asia and Oceania: SGD 1,500
- – Europe; North, Central and South America; Africa; Middle East: SGD 2,500
Stipend: SGD 6,000 for 8-week program.
Visa application fee will be covered.
* The stipend covers all your living costs during your summer program such as local transportation, meals, etc.
** Please note : All students must arrange their own private health and travel insurance.
Please be informed that neither the Amgen Foundation nor the National University of Singapore can provide health insurance.
