ISTA Austrian Scholarship Program is designed to share graduate school experience. Austria is considered to have a very high quality of education. The University of Vienna is ranked 143 according to the Times Higher Education world rankings and boasts nine institutions in the top 1,000. These include the medical and technical universities related to the study of sciences. Austria is a great place for future international students. It has very affordable tuition fees when compared to other popular study destinations, like the US, UK, or Australia. The quality of life is very high and the country has a low crime rate.

All students making reasonable progress are fully funded until the submission of their Ph.D. thesis.
All our PhD students are Internationally competitive salary levels, and receive full social security coverage.
Salaries for Austrian Scholarship Holder
Minimum Salary for ISTA Austrian Scholarship Holder EUR 1119
PhD student salaries depend on whether the student is holding a bachelor’s or a master’s degree at the time of admission. When students pass their Qualifying Exam (about 1.5 years into their degree), they receive a salary raise. Gross salaries in the year 2022 for PhD students range – dependent on the criteria above – from 2336 EUR/month to 2838 EUR/month (paid 14 times a year: once per month plus double payments in June and November).
Admission and Tuition Fee
ISTA does not charge any tuition fees. No application fee is required to apply to our PhD and internship programs.
There is also financial support for students to cover travel expenses for attending scientific conferences and workshops.
