Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung Stipendiat_innen have many things in common: they want to be among the best in terms of expertise and want support that enables them to study intensively. You are committed to socio-political goals and would like to develop personally.
Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung basic support is tailored to these needs: it offers financial security and integration into a community that is committed to social goals. A comprehensive seminar program makes it possible to strengthen one's own social and professional skills. The topics enable them to gain new perspectives on politics and society and to prepare themselves concretely for their professional careers.
They are personally supervised by the Mitarbeiter_innen of the Student Support, who accompany their studies in an informed and committed manner. Our university groups offer space for the socio-political commitment of the Stipendiat_innen. Mentor_innen share their experiences, gives tips, and supports the students individually.
Eligible Nationality
(1) Educational support is provided
Germans within the meaning of the Basic Law,
Union citizens who have a right of permanent residence within the meaning of the Freedom of Movement Act/EU as well as other foreigners who hold a settlement permit or an EC permanent residence permit under the Residence Act, Union citizens who are entitled to freedom of movement under EU law under Paragraph 2(2) of the Law on the Free Movement of Persons/EU as employed or self-employed persons under EU law, as well as their spouses, life partners and children who are entitled to freedom of movement under EU law under the conditions laid down in Paragraph 3(1) and (4) of the Law on the Free Movement of Persons/EU or who are not entitled to those rights as children only because they are 21 years of age or older and are not entitled to any of their parents or their spouses or life partners. receive maintenance,
Union citizens who, before the start of training in Germany, have been in an employment relationship whose subject matter is substantively related to that of the training, nationals of another State Party to the Agreement on the European Economic Area under the conditions laid down in points 2 to 4,
foreigners who have their habitual residence in Germany and who are recognized outside the Federal territory as refugees within the meaning of the Convention on the Status of Refugees of 28 July 1951 (Federal Law Gazette 1953 II p. 559) and are not only temporarily entitled to reside in the territory of the Federal Republic of Germany, homeless foreigners within the meaning of the Act on the Status of Homeless Foreigners in the Federal Territory in the amended version published in the Federal Law Gazette Part III, heading number 243-1, as last amended by Article 7 of the Act of 30 July 2004 (Federal Law Gazette I, p. 1950).
(2) Other foreigners shall be granted educational support if they have their permanent residence in Germany and hold a residence permit in accordance with §§ 22, 23 paragraph 1, 2 or 4, §§ 23a, 25 paragraph 1 or 2, §§ 25a, 25b, 28, 37, 38 paragraph 1 number 2, § 104a or as the spouse or partner or child of a foreigner with a settlement permit a residence permit in accordance with § 30 or §§ 32 to 34 of the Residence Act, a residence permit pursuant to § 25 paragraph 3, paragraph 4 sentence 2 or paragraph 5, § 31 of the Residence Act or, as a spouse or partner or child of a foreigner with a residence permit, have a residence permit in accordance with § 30, §§ 32 to 34 or § 36a of the Residence Act and have been legal, permitted or tolerated in Germany for at least 15 months without interruption.
(2a) Tolerated foreigners (§ 60a of the Residence Act) who have their permanent residence in Germany are granted educational support if they have been legal, permitted, or tolerated in the Federal territory for at least 15 months without interruption.
(3) In all other respects, training support shall be granted to foreigners if:
they themselves have resided in Germany for a total of five years before the start of the eligible part of the training period and have been legally employed, or
at least one parent has resided in Germany for a total of three years during the six years preceding the start of the eligible part of the training period and has been legally employed, otherwise from the date on which these conditions were met in the further course of the training phase. The conditions shall also be deemed to have been fulfilled for a single further training phase if the trainee has acquired the entry requirements in the previous training phase and then immediately begins the training phase. The requirement of the parent's gainful activity during the last six years may be waived if it has not been exercised for reasons beyond his or her control and if he or she has been employed in Germany for at least six months.
(4) Apprentices who are personally entitled to support as spouses or life partners in accordance with paragraphs 1 or 2 shall not lose their entitlement to educational support by the fact that they live permanently separated or their marriage or civil partnership has been dissolved if they continue to reside legally in Germany.
(5) Laws, regulations, and administrative provisions according to which other foreigners are to receive educational support remain unaffected.
Required Things
Apply for Basic/Master/ Degree Scholarship
- Confirmation of study place or certificate of enrolment at a state or state-recognized German (technical) university for the course of study for which you want to be funded
- Foreign Bewerber_innen must also prove sufficient German language skills
- Studienanfänger_innen (Germans and Bildungsinländer_innen) apply before or at the beginning of the first semester and need two expert opinions from Lehrer_innen
Apply for Doctoral Degree Scholarship
- Unconditional letter of admission to the doctoral scholarship
- Foreign Bewerber_innen must also prove sufficient German language skills
You cannot apply for the following courses
- Medical courses up to the Physik
- Doctorates and further education and training in the field of medicine
- Second degree programmes (this only applies to the programme 'Grundförderung für Deutsche und Bildungsinländer_innen')
- Part-time courses of study
- 2-semester Master's degree programs
- Graduation/doctoral final phases
Benefits
Stipendiat_innen receives up to 752 euros per month, the calculation is analogous to BAföG and depends, among other things, on the income of the parents. In addition, there is a monthly study fee of 300 euros, which all Stipendiat_innen receive for free
use. Depending on the situation of the Bewerber_in, we also make a contribution to health insurance of up to 71 euros and to long-term care insurance of up to 15 euros per month. Stipendiat_innen with a child can receive a family supplement of 155 euros per month. The scholarship does not have to be repaid.
Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung expressly supports stays abroad during the funding period: through subsidies for travel expenses, tuition fees, and foreign health insurance – especially for study or research stay, language courses, and internships of up to twelve months.
