I know you have a lot of questions like this about #IELTS. I am writing this article to answer those questions.
What is IELTS?
IELTS stands for International English Language Testing System. This means that if we are migrating to an English-speaking country for education or permanent residence, we have to take this IELTS exam.
What do you ask for in the IELTS exam?
The IELTS exam tests your English proficiency in 4 areas. These are the 4 sections of speaking, reading, writing, and listening.
When speaking you have to talk to an examiner.
1. The first task is to answer some of the most common questions he asks. It asks you simple things like your job and your village.
2. The second task is to talk for 1.5 to 2 minutes on a topic he gives. It also gives you a minute to get ready.
3. The third task is to answer a few additional questions asked by the examiner about the topic being discussed.
In reading, you will find 3 paragraphs (paragraphs). Here are the answers to the questions asked in these 3 paragraphs.
This is just like the Comprehension section you had for O / L. You get an hour for this.
In writing, you will find 2 challenges.
1. Write a letter of 150 words or describe a graph in 150 words (a graph). This chart is not so complicated but very simple. For example, a graph of how the populations of five countries have changed over the past five years.
2. The other challenge is to write a 250-word essay. They will give you the topic you want to write.
You get an hour for this too.
In listing you will be given a recording. I will also give you a paper with 40 questions. All you have to do is listen to the recording, understand it and answer those 40 questions. Then you have to fill in the blanks, underline the correct answer, and write short answers.
How many marks do I need to get in IELTS?
In the IELTS exam you get a score between 1 and 9. That's 5, 6.5, 8, 8.5. All the four ways mentioned earlier get a mark like this.
Then the average is considered as your IELTS mark. The number of points you want to get depends on the reason you are going to the country of migration.
For example, if you are going to Australia to do a degree, you need a minimum IELTS score of 6.0. Then if you want to get permanent residency (PR - Permanent Residence) in Australia you need an IELTS score of 7.0.
Is IELTS really that hard?
IELTS is not a really difficult exam right now. The first reason to say so is that there are plenty of classes to prepare for IELTS.
