Russian Government Scholarships
Certain groups of foreigners, Russians living abroad, and immigrants can apply for state scholarships on the same terms as Russian citizens once they pass entrance exams or Uniform State Examination (EGE). Moreover, every year Russian government provides so-called ‘state-funded spots’ at universities to international applicants. In 2021, 18,000 such spots were granted.
EGE Exam
Entrance Exams and Introductory Unified State Examination (EGE) When enrolling at a Russian university on the usual terms, the applicants submit the results of the Unified State Examination (EGE) or pass admission tests. The EGE is the exam taken by all high school graduates in Russia. Its results are accepted for enrolment at Russian universities. International applicants can also take the EGE for enrolment to a university.
Many Russian universities conduct tests individually or jointly and select talented international applicants based on the results. Representatives of universities visit various countries or send tests assignments to their colleagues abroad. The applicants with the best test results can expect preferential terms when enrolling at Russian universities.

According to open data from the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, the number of students in the country today is about 4 million. Of these, 315,000 are foreign citizens. Applicants choose leading universities in various regions of Russia. Traditionally popular areas of training are medicine, engineering specialties, and IT. Among other disciplines, foreigners prioritize economics, finance, and natural sciences. In addition to a high level of education, students in Russia get the opportunity to continue their scientific activities and find interesting work.
*In certain cases, applicants interested in enrollment in Arts and Humanities must sit additional examinations (creative contests) in the universities. For this, applicants will need to come to Russia on a tourist visa. The decision to accept/not accept a certain application will be made based on the results of the creative contest (additional examinations).
